Hugh Laurie (the guy from 'House') as Mr. Pip
This year we will be looking at all sorts of cool stuff. We have already read World War I poetry in term one. These poems are amazing, gruesome and heartbreaking, all at the same time. The book we are currently studying is Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones - nominated for the Man Booker Prize in 2007, and coming out at the movies shortly. Last year in year 12 I taught the film Amelie, a French film. That didn't go down too well though, so I am thinking I will look at studying a different film this year.
Due to popular demand... Here is the album you are all dying to listen to!
Here is a great new album by Regina Spektor - see if you enjoy it!
Looking for some new music?
Look no further. Kristian Mattson, aka The Tallest Man on Earth, is a Swedish singer/songwriter who is also an incredible lyricist. He is even more amazing when you consider that English is his second language. Have a listen to his album, The Wild Hunt - here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyrYW9Demsc&safe=active
The BBC recently released a list of 100 books you should read before you die - supposedly the average person would have only read six of them!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/bigread/top100.shtml - so, have you read more or less? I have read 28- a very poor effort for an English teacher!
